The Miniature Dachshund has several terrier-like characteristics, including an instinct to dig. It’s clever, independent, courageous, and has even been known to take on foxes and otters! Miniature Dachshunds are energetic, playful, fun, and love to chase small animals, birds and tennis balls with great determination and ferocity! They can also be mischievous and sometimes stubborn, with a tendency to try to train their owner(s). This breed requires a firm “pack leader” type of owner to avoid territorial behavioral problems. The Miniature Dachshund is also sweet, loyal, devoted to its family, and has moderate protective instincts. Miniature Dachshunds should be socialized at an early age to avoid excessive aggressiveness towards other animals.
